Credit and Debt Counselling UKWith the cost of living rising rapidly and problems in the world economy increasing, consumer debt is now a major problem in many countries, including the UK.
If you find yourself in this position, you can, fortunately, make use of several sources of help for individuals who find themselves in financial difficulties, such as poor credit and growing debt. Consumer credit and debt counselling services offer advice on both paying back debts and learning how to manage money more efficiently, allowing folks to learn to live within their means. If you have reached the point where your personal debts seems too much to bear and is keeping you awake at night with worry, it is a good idea to consider credit counselling. In the UK, anything to do with money problems is usually considered a bit shameful and so subjects like, bankruptcy and debt aren't talked about much, with the result that many people don't seek help until the last minute. There are three free debt counselling services based in the UK which are free. These are: 1. Citizen's Advice Bureau (CAB) The Citizen's Advice Bureau exists to give all sorts of advice to the public. However, debt counselling has become one of their major areas of work, as debt levels soar. Advice is free and is provided by trained consumer debt counsellors. They can contact your creditors directly for you and help to set up repayment options. The CAB is well-known and respected, but if you live in a large city, like London, it can be very difficult to get an appointment, as demand is high.
2. Consumer Credit Counselling Service The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) is a charity, which provides independent practical advice 3. The National Debtline This is a telephone based service, also a charity and therefore also free. It can often be easier to talk about difficult finances to someone over the phone and this approach does also save time. It is advisable to seek help
from one of these sources and not to be tempted by advertisements which
promise to get you out of debt or offer dodgy loans. So if you are struggling
with your finances, take the first step - look into credit and debt counselling
before it's too late.
