If you have poor credit history you will probably end up paying a higher rate of interest on any loans you take out. If you want to improve your credit rating, the first step you should take is to contact the three major credit bureaus and have a look at your credit reports. You should read these reports very carefully to check for errors, which sometimes do occur, and make sure that these are corrected.
You should also be sure to make a copy of any correspondence, just in case run into any problems at a future date. Keep contacting them until the situation is resolved to your satisfaction. Occasionally clearing up these errors is enough to boost your credit score and have give you access to more borrowing opportunities or enable you to get loans with lower interest rates. Never make the assumption that people have followed up on your requests, this is crucial when dealing with your financial affairs.
